RIP LIMPY

2000-2008

Its been almost eight years since the death of Limpy (Hoppy) wolf 253 who was tragically killed in March 2008. This is a sad story of one of Yellowstone's famous Druids who was shot and killed outside Daniel, Wyoming on the first day the ESA protection for wolves were lifted for the first time, by the then Bush Administration.

As a young male he was babysitter to Druid pups, guarding them and their den but he was bound to leave them, travelling thousands of miles in his life, even though he was handicapped by a leg injury which he sustained when he was a pup.

Limpy who was also known as "The Wanderer" initially left his pack when he was 2yrs old (which can be a common occurrence for wolves of his age) travelled south outside of Yellowstone National Park, crossed through Wyoming and all the way to Utah. Sadly he was caught in a coyote trap later that year outside Salt Lake City and was the first wolf to be sighted in the state for seven decades. He was then reunited with his pack back in Yellowstone. He remained for two more years up to the point when there was a death of the alpha male 21, then another wolf emerged and took on the position of the alpha male.

THE DELISTING OF WOLF 253M

Limpy left the pack for the last time, leaving the protection of Yellowstone maybe to look for a mate and start off a new pack. Limpy travelled thousands of miles covering atleast two states with no interference or known destruction to man. Sadly on the morning of Friday 28th March 2008, he was shot and killed.
